Understanding the name, beliefs, and message behind Islam

At its heart, Islam means peace and submission—two words that beautifully explain what this faith is about. The word “Islam” comes from the Arabic root word “Salaam,” which means peace. It also means submitting yourself to the will of Allah (God). By trusting and following Allah’s guidance, Muslims believe they find peace within themselves and harmony with the world around them.

What Does ‘Submission to God’ Mean?
In Islam, submitting to Allah doesn’t mean losing yourself. Instead, it means trusting that God knows what’s best for you and following His guidance in life. This submission is about worshipping God alone, doing good deeds, and living with honesty, kindness, and fairness. It’s a way of life that brings balance and purpose.

The Message of Islam
Islam teaches that God (Allah) is One, the Creator of everything. It’s a faith built on simplicity and clarity:

  • Worship God alone.
  • Do good to others.
  • Be kind, honest, and patient.

  • The teachings are a continuation of the messages given to previous prophets like Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all). Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is considered the final messenger who brought Islam as a complete way of life.

    Peace in Action
Islam isn’t just about belief—it’s about action. From praying 5 times a day to helping those in need, peace and submission to Allah are reflected through how Muslims live their lives.

    Islam and Everyday Life
At its core, Islam helps answer some of life’s biggest questions:

  • Why am I here?
  • What happens after I die?
  • How can I live a fulfilling, peaceful life?

  • Islam offers guidance through the Quran, its holy book, and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It encourages you to build a strong connection with Allah, treat others with compassion, and grow as a person.
